Fossils

My paintings of fish fossils, which I consider beautiful in form as well as beautifully preserved, are called portraits because I see different facial and bodily expressions in each of the fossils I have chosen to paint.  As a result they may look more like live creatures.  The knowledge that these fossils who lived so long ago could still be with us in such a tangible way gives me a reassuring sense that life forms we love need not disappear forever and that all life is indeed a continuum.
